12. Victor

Victor, 31, lives in Boise, USA

A few days after we met Victor in a restaurant in Antigua, Guatemala, we were lucky enough to bump again into him and his girlfriend Abbey in Paredon, a surf camp at the pazific ocean, as well in Guatemala.

Victor has worked for years as a guide in Alaska and Belize and also owns his own SUP (Stand Up Paddle) board Shop in Idahoe. He and Abbey were on a motorbike trip starting from Belize, now helping out their friends in El Paredon to fix boards in the camp. Where clumsy tourists seem to shred all the rental boards in no time. For example newbees like Manu: she broke the rented surfboard within her first run in only 5 minutes, but Victor was the man who knew how to get that good old thing back on track. After that incident Manu and Jyri could not rent the fist-class surfboards anymore. Our next rental board (lowest class) Victor called “death star”, all covered in grey colour from a spray can. “It is to hide all the fixes I made to this unlucky bastard”, was all that Victor had to say. There was a lot of “death star”-grey involved by all of the rental boards that he had brought back to life.

Victor feels at home in the white water rivers with his kayak or in the open water with his paddleboard, where he outpaddled everybody, everyday, anytime. There was an exception in El Paredon where the wave was faster, once.
